Today, June 13th, is his actual birthday, but we had his party last night. He had so much fun! What a difference between last year, when he had no idea what was going on, compared to this year. I don't think he really knew what was going on, but he definitely knew he was center of attention and that it was something called "his birthday" where he was going to get lots of new presents and eat cake. He LOVED opening the presents and eating his cake. He was so busy playing with all of his new toys, that he didn't even eat dinner with everyone at the party! I managed to shove half a banana in his mouth during a break from playing, and then he had some Elmo ice cream cake and Disney Car cookies from Grandma for the rest of his birthday dinner!
I love thinking back to where I was the week leading up to Brendan's birthday... He was due on June 4th, but I didn't go into labor until 11pm June 12th! So, when I reminisce, it is of me calling my mom a few times a day so I could cry, and doing anything and everything I could to put myself into labor -- walking, gardening, eating spicy foods, etc. So last night when I was cleaning up from his party around 10pm, I recalled having my first contractions, 2 years ago exactly, that had us going to the hospital by 1am. I still can't believe I gave birth to a human being! It is truly such a miracle that you don't really get until you actually go through it. And it still amazes me every day when I look at what Jeff and I created! It's so amazing!
Happy Birthday, my sweet little angel Brendan! We love you so much! Our lives wouldn't be complete without you! You bring so much joy and we are so blessed to have such a wonderful little 2 year old boy! (especially since I was convinced you were a girl! Little did I know it would be the most wonderful experience to raise a little boy!)
Here are some pictures and videos of our new 2 year old!
Opening presents... more toys!!
SMILE!
" Who's birthday is it, mom?! Mine, or yours..."
Brendan's cake in the midst of being cut... it's a true depiction of my love hate relationship with Elmo! I love him because Brendan loves him, but there are times when I just can't stand to hear his voice anymore!!
"Ice cream cake for dinner! What a great birthday, mom!"
His reaction to opening the presents was the BEST!
