Happy Spring?!

We are desperately in need of some spring weather to go along with this "First Day of Spring!" Can I ever remember a first day of spring where it wasn't cold and snowy? No. So why would I expect it? Global Warming, maybe?!

Here's our beautiful back yard, full of snow, ice, mud, and icy puddles... pretty.

And our black lab, Bailey, just loves to be outside on these half frozen, half muddy days. And her paws just love to soak up the mud. I ask myself time and time again why I just had to have cream carpet throughout the house...

Now don't get the wrong idea and think my carpet is dirty, or anything. I just have to work extra hard at keeping it clean!! Luckily, Bailey is a very well-behaved, obedient dog when it comes to sitting and having her paws washed. She sits on a towel at the back door and patiently hands me each of her paws to clean. Sometimes it's 1 wipe, other times it takes more like 10! (Sort of how Jeff rates diaper changes... when he does them. "Wow, that was a 10 wipe diaper," he'll say. My response is usually, "I could've done that diaper in 3 wipes.")

When we moved to our new home, I just started buying baby wipes in bulk at Sam's Club... just for Bailey. We go through them much quicker since Brendan joined the fam! Since I'd like to join the forces and become "greener" I invested in a catalog item I saw called "The Paw Plunger."

I got it last summer from Solutions catalog. I am definitely saving more wipes now. When I know she's especially muddy, I fill up the paw plunger with warm water and plunge her paws in and out a few times and it totally works! There are all these little brushes inside so it gets all the mud out from under her nails, in between her toes, everything. Then I just take a towel and get the excess water off and she's good to go...

I've been looking for a "Butt Plunger" for Brendan, but no luck yet. I guess I'll have to keep littering the world with wipes in the meantime. To be greener, I guess I'll just keep changing the diapers since Jeff needs to join "overwipers anonymous."
