One of my New Year's resolutions is to be better at taking ideas from Family Fun magazine and actually MAKING them with my kids! I love getting the issue every month, and I page through all of the cute ideas, mark the pages, even sometimes buy the supplies with great intentions... and then I never find the time, or make the time to actually DO them! It's probably because deep down I know my son... whatever I plan will be "too hard, too boring, too messy, too SOMETHING!" He's a typical BOY! Not really into crafty things, although I know he does need practice and I always think he will have fun... right?!
Right before Christmas, there was an ornament making craft with pony beads and pipe cleaner. You cut the pipe cleaner twist it in the shape of a snowflake and have your child thread beads on each spoke to make a beautiful ornament... Riiiiiight. Unfortunately, I was told by Brendan "dis is taking too long, and it's super boring..." He threaded one spoke, and was over it! Of course.

So in the February issue of Family Fun, I see a craft called "Sticky Hands, Warm Hearts" using red, pink, and white yarn, cornstarch and water, and heart shaped cookie cutters. He'll love this! It's messy and gross, and you get a pretty heart ornament at the end. I have all the supplies, but the yarn, so when I was at the craft store I bought the yarn and was really looking forward to a little craft time.

Cutting the yarn was good scissor practice...

Making the glue out of cornstarch and hot water over the stovetop... he loves cooking!

Maybe I don't REALLY know my own child?! He totally freaks out over the goopy-ness of the glue and goes nuts...

Stomping away... anyone who knows Brendan, knows his song and dance! And he wasn't very happy I was snapping away with my camera :-)

So I had a nice time getting messy and making yarn heart decorations by myself. Well, not really, but I didn't have much of a choice! If anyone wants to knit a red, pink, and white sweater you can have my 3 spools of yarn! We won't be needing it over here...

How funny but not for him. Its just so typical. I have 3 little monkeys and I can relate. Cute idea though. Might have to try it. Thanks for sharing!

Hi! I am a good friend of Rachel Hall and found your blog through her (love it!). Hope this doesn't seem wierd, but I was wondering where you got the cupcake pieces for Brooke's birthday banner. I love it! Did you cut those or buy them? Thanks!!
Katie
