I had an MRI this morning at 9am... if you've never had one before, it will definitely make you claustrophobic! I had a few moments inside the tunnel where I thought I might have a panic attack right there and then. But I hung in there so I could just get it over with and figure out what is wrong with my back!
Onto the pain management specialist at 12:15... he read my MRI and saw that my L5 disk is herniated. So my next step was to decide a recovery process, of which I have decided to do traction therapy (where they stretch you out and hope to create more room in your spinal column for the disc to retrieve back to) and epidural blocks. I will have 3 of these shots, similar to the epidural I received when I had Brendan, but I'll be able to walk. After each shot, which will be every Thursday for the next 3 weeks, I have to lay flat on my back for at least 6 hours to ensure the medicine is localized where it was injected. I'm really good at lying on my back since I've been practicing for the last 7 days!
I finally know what's been causing all this pain. It feels good to know what's wrong, but of course I'm still worried the pain won't be cured! Please continue to pray for me, and also for everyone else who's had to put their life on hold for my back. I am hoping that after this week I will be able to care for Brendan on my own. He's been so good, thank God! I'm surprised at how flexible he's been going to different houses, and having different caretakers each day. I think he actually likes the change in faces each day.
I've heard the saying, "You have nothing without your health" and that is SO true! I am really looking forward to getting back to my normal, ordinary life. It will feel like the most exciting life after more than a week in bed!
