My Little Picasso

So, I'm at a friend's house today for a play date when Brendan decides to display his artistic abilities...

The boys were playing in her beautifully finished basement and we sat down on the couches to relax a chat a little. I see my friend Trish look up and say, "Oh, no, no, honey. Don't draw there..." I turn around to see that Brendan has just taken two different colored crayons and scribbled in several places on a painting on her wall! OH. MY. GOD. This is no painting from a home goods store. This is a custom painting her husband had someone paint for the basement... I stood up, felt a dizzy panic sensation come over me. I think I blacked out a little, came to, and then got tears in my eyes.

"I'm sorry!" I said. And then I scolded Brendan and told him that crayons are for paper and not for anything else! I've told him that several times, but apparently he thought this painting needed some of his special touches. I'm not sure he realized that he did anything wrong. I'm sure he's thinking, "Someone else drew on that, so why can't I?"

Trish is SO nice and really laid back when it comes to boys and their sometimes destructive behavior. Thank God! We started using our sleeves to try and rub out some of the crayon and luckily it was working. The pink came out right away, but the green wasn't so easy. There was still some smudges that we couldn't get out of the crevices on the canvas. She told me not to worry (yea, right!) and she was going to look online to figure out a solution to get the remaining remnants of the green crayon out. I'm just glad he didn't use RED. The part of the picture he painted on was the sandy beach. Of course. The lightest possible color, other than white! Couldn't he have picked a black canvas to draw on?!

She's trying to console me so I don't feel so bad... Here are the nice things she said to me:

~ Nathan's crayoned on the couches and tables, so I'm used to this!

~ I'm pregnant with my 2nd boy! This house is going to be destroyed!

~ If not Brendan, Nathan could have done this... (I wish HE did!!)

~ You can hardly see it...

~ They're 2!!

Isn't she sweet?! I've met so many nice moms since I've had Brendan... hopefully she's still my friend next week :-)

By this time, we were laughing, and I told her I would definitely be blogging about this one... unfortunately I didn't expect to be writing a blog based on our visit there today so I didn't bring my camera. I used my cell phone to snap a few pictures after we got most of the crayon out. I can definitely see where the leftover marks are, but hopefully her husband won't see!!

Actually, she texted me when I got home that she used a white towel and rubbed it more and you can't see anything. I'll be checking next time I go over just to make sure. I'm guessing I can have it fixed if it's still there next time I check??

So, here's to good friends who let your kids come over, play with their kids toys, eat lunch, crayon on their expensive paintings, leave their house without cleaning up the toys because you're already late for their nap, and they are STILL your friend! The play date is at our house next Thursday... I'm sure Nathan can figure out a way to get Brendan back!

Here's the painting from far away...

The graffiti artist ready to commit another crime...

If you look closely, you can still see a big green line underneath the man... If I had my regular camera you would definitely be able to see it.

Taking a break from destruction to watch The Little Einsteins.

Aren't they even cuter when they're quiet and sitting?!? We think so!
