Not My Typical Sunday

I used to LOVE staying at home all day on Sundays, watching TV, doing laundry, taking naps, whatever I wanted. But NOW, with the crazy energizer bunny I gave birth to, I MUST get out of this house each and every day for at least a few hours or we will both go insane. I get that cooped up feeling, and I think Brendan gets it too.

Our regular Sunday routine was not the same today. Jeff had to go out of town this week to San Fran and LA, so he left this afternoon (we miss you Jeff!) Normally on Sundays we go to my mother-in-law's house for dinner, but today she was sick.

Needing to get out of the house, I decided to bundle up Brendan and head out to Petsmart for some dog food around 6:30. On the way there I was telling him how we were going to go see some cats, birds, fish and mice at Petsmart. (I know what you're thinking -- nice, exciting life, Heather! This is your Sunday outing?! Yes, it is.) We pull into the packed parking lot and he is so excited, thanks to me for talking it up!... Well, apparently Hometown Buffet is the place to be on Sunday night, because all the cars in the parking lot were not customers at Petsmart this evening, as I discovered when I walked up to the doors and they didn't slide open...

Oh, no here comes the meltdown. "They're closed," I tell him, but he doesn't really get it yet. Not until I open the car door and attempt to put him back in his "much-hated since he was a baby" carseat! He is crying so much harder than I expected. The look in his tear-filled eyes of sheer disappointment just breaks my heart! Petsmart to a 1 1/2 year old is like a trip to the zoo!!

I can't go home YET. Hmmm, well, he does need dinner, but if anyone who knows me saw what I looked like today, you would've told me "just stay home, don't embarrass yourself!" So, I must choose wisely, where I won't bump into anyone. We've never been to McDonald's yet, and it's right across the street. I head over there, calming him down on the way, telling him we'll go eat dinner at McDonalds, even though he has no idea what that is! It stopped the crying, though!

So, Brendan got his first happy meal tonight. Chicken nuggets and fries with some dinky toy that didn't even hold his attention for more than 30 seconds! I ate the most disgusting salad I've ever had while sitting in a completely empty restaurant (thank god!) that needs a major update. I don't usually eat at McDonald's, as Jeff and I are Wendy's fans :-) -- I'm not that picky, but this place was as run down and DIRTY as they come. And the high schoolers that were running this place! Don't even get me started on how I walked in and waited for 5 minutes (I'm the only person in there!) before one of them decided to stop their gossiping and wait on me! And then while we ate, one of the kids walked around on his cell phone while he was sweeping up the place! Funny. I guess if I was 17 and working at Mickey D's, I'd be doing the same thing!!

Have a wonderful week!!! And don't get the Asian Chicken Salad at McDonalds. Gross.

Hi Heather-
I think this is just fabulous! I loved reading your posts and can totally relate. Congrats on your new outlet... can't wait to read more and keep tabs on one of Maya's favorite guys.

Just wait until one day McDonald's becomes our Thursday night hang out. :)
