Mother of the Year...

Normally, I pride myself on the food I buy and give to Brendan. I hate vegetables, but I make them in hopes of raising a child who will eat healthier than myself. I now find myself reading labels to check for preservatives, partially hydrogenated stuff, etc. I buy organic & natural when I think it makes sense, and I think my fridge is in shock with the amount of fruit that is stocked in there!

With that being said, yesterday Brendan ate a healthy breakfast of whole grain pancakes, grapes, and blueberries. So, when he said "more" (actually, it sounds more like, "moe, moe") our "caveman conversation" went something like this:

B: Moe, Moe

Me: More pancakes?

B: Nooo

Me: More blueberries, grapes?

B: Noooo

Me: More mommy? (trying to be funny and humor myself in this guessing game)

B: Noooo!

Me: More cookies? (I don't even know why I asked this question. I don't even think I have cookies and I'm not expecting him to even know what I'm talking about)...

B: Ahhh. (that means, "yes")

Me: Cookies?? (Just double checking)

B: Ahhhh!

I guess he does know what cookies are! I check the snack cupboard to see what I can pass off as a cookie and find a 100 calorie snack pack of mini Keebler Rainbow MnM cookies. Where did those come from? If I would've known those were lurking in my cupboard, I would've already eaten them for sure!!

Hmmm, now I'm torn. He's actually attempting to communicate with me (yeah!), but can I really feed him cookies at 9am??

I begin trying to justify this as quickly as I can in my head before I end up with an "it's too early in the day" tantrum...

"He ate a good breakfast; he's actually communicating with me; I'll only do it this once; it's my fault because I asked him if he wanted cookies!?"

I'm sure you've already guessed that I went ahead and gave my precious little angel those cookies! Someone has to enjoy those cookies. And you know I had one, too!!

Don't act surprised when you hear I've won "Mother of the Year." :-)
