We have been really busy since my last detailed blog, and I don't even know where to start, so I think I will just post a bunch of pictures and videos, and just quickly write a few highlights...
First of all, Brooke is finally sleeping through the night! OK, NO she isn't. But I just really wanted to type that out!! Wow, that felt good. OK... We are making strides in the sleep department. 2 weeks ago I decided to just go cold turkey on the swaddle, AND rocking her to sleep, and she really only fussed a little and then usually can put herself to sleep for naps and bedtime. That has been really nice... She goes to bed around 730. We "dream feed" her at 10:30, or else she will wake up around 1 for a bottle, and then again at 4. So, by feeding her at 10:30, in which she doesn't even wake up, she makes it until 4am. I know one day I will miss our special time together. At 4am. WILL I, REALLY?! I'm telling myself that to get through this time! The pediatrician said to keep feeding her until she is 6 months, and then we can think about letting her "cry it out" which makes me so sad to think about, but we did it with Brendan, and it was the hardest, but best thing I ever did. He is such a great sleeper still.
Brooke is rolling all over the place, and can almost sit by herself! I always thought she was more laid back than Brendan because she loved to hang out and lay on her little activity gym mat all the time, but doing that has really got her figuring out how to move. I had better chain her to the exersaucer and jumperoo before she learns how to crawl!! Seriously, I just want a nice, calm summer, where I am only chasing Brendan around. I don't need a crawling baby!! CAN YOU TELL SHE'S THE 2ND CHILD!? With your first, you just can't wait until they meet the next milestone, and hope they will be early crawlers and walkers because that must mean they are smart!! In my mind, I have at least 4 more months of heaven with a non-mobile baby! Next summer will be the "there she goes" summer, and I am hoping to take off about 10 pounds chasing her around in the heat. This year, I just want to relax! She is also really into Brendan, and laughs SO hard at whatever he does. It could be the dumbest thing ever, and she just eats him up. It is so cute! She just gazes at him, like she is so in love with him. Wait till she finds out her live-in boyfriend is her brother!!
I think this was taken about a month ago... since then, she has only had one other food besides carrots. It's actually SO hard to find the extra time to feed her solids. YES. I can't find time to feed my baby, I said it!! I've had peas sitting on my counter to try for a week now, and they are still there! I think they are so gross, so I must subconsciously feel bad feeding them to her, so they have there own little counter spot until I decide to do it! She's actually not really "into" solids anyway, so I don't feel bad. I'll try more soon, but she's not loving the new tastes like I remember Brendan doing, so she's probably just not ready -- and the rice cereal. Yea, that didn't work for sleeping through the night, but I tried!
Brendan started school on March 1. If you remember reading my blog back in September, I decided not to send him. Then I ran into his 2 year old Mommy & Me teacher from last year, who was supposed to be his teacher this year, and she convinced me to start him in her classroom in March. Actually, she didn't have to do much convincing... Brendan was going absolutely stir crazy and driving us and himself nuts. He started school 2 days a week (only for 2 hours, but it's still a break!) and LOVES it, and has been much better behaved at home. And when I say "much better behaved " I mean he only gets 10 time outs a day, instead of 2o. Seriously. Gotta love parenting a strong willed, energetic little boy! Again, I know I will miss these times one day, too. I will keep telling myself that to get me through this time!
Here he is performing his "Spring Paraliturgy" songs. It was so adorable!
Brendan started a little soccer class/team last week, which he is really excited about. Our neighbor/friend is also there, too. They are in different groups, but they still get to kick the ball around together. It's non-competitive, just a learning kind of soccer team. Perfect for Brendan because he has a hard time losing, or not doing something perfectly. Once again, an example of how he is so much like my brother! I remember my parents letting Brian play baseball only if he didn't cry when he struck out. When he struck out he'd be blinking 100 times a minute to fight back those tears, the poor kid! That will be Brendan! It's once a week for an hour, and so cute to watch all of these 3 to 5 year olds try and play!
Unfortunately, being in school has brought home lots of cold germs. I think since March 1 Brendan had, at most, 5 days without ending one cold, and starting another. I am thankful that there were no fevers, just 2 bad coughing colds, and 2 stuffy nose colds for Brendan, and Brooke got 2 or 3 stuffy nose colds, and NO coughs. Miraculously, she dodged the coughs. I couldn't believe it. I even got a terrible cough and cold. And I hate babies coughing because it scares me with their breathing... we really lucked out.
I just love having 2 kids, although it keeps me way busier than I ever imagined. I still can't imagine how people have more, but they do it, right?!
